We don't have the 3-martini lunches our parents' generation used as their steam valves. I take solace in the fact that Churchill was a well-known regular napper, and not just because he was older. Set the timer for 30 minutes, knock off, and it's a whole new day. And I celebrate the fact that I found a program which lets me play late 80s-early 90s videogames on my Mac, because letting my inner nerd out to (literally) play helps keep me sane.
Did you find that living in Detroit while you worked at Hearst made it less stressful to be out of the fray or more stressful bc you weren’t in the middle of it?
Definitely less. And then WFH whittled it down even more. Your stress level is in many ways always going to be at the mercy of what goes on above you, so I found the distance helpful.
I looovvve this! My input is that first cuppa coffee in absolute solitude. Next on my list is gathering myself to meditate. I’ll get there. Thanks for the reframe tho…that’s where it starts.
J, you will hate this but I actually believe that coffee is the fuel of the big hustle. I bet if someone did a chart showing burnout compared to the growth of coffee shops it’s a direct correlation. (Clearly I don’t drink coffee. 🙃) How about a big frothy cuppa cacao instead? 🤓
I knowww. I hear you. And just the smell fills me with warmth and cosy and calm. And when i drink it snuggled in bed before the chaos of the morning it feels soo good and sooo comforting. I’ll give cacao a try … one day
try cacao laboratory. i did a cacao ceremony with the founder and it was so deep. i just had a mug before my meditation and i swear, it was such a beautiful experience. 🤓
Atoosa! You do realize that this essay is a book proposal, right?
E. Jean, I love you so much. No one wants me to be back on top more than you and my ex-husband (so he doesn’t have to pay support!) 👑👑👑❤️❤️❤️
heeeee!
